我们需要怎样的高中教育
——访上海纽约大学俞立中校长

摘要:本文采用访谈的方法,对高中教育目标及课程改革进行探讨。本文认为,应该从学生的立场而非成人的角度去描述高中生应有的素养,这些素养包括拓展学习兴趣,锻炼学习洞察力,注重在知识、技能等方面形成一些特长及具备跨文化交流的能力。与此相配套,需要打通课程体系,尽量让不同学科领域“跨”起来。从这个意义上说,上海纽约大学所践行的培养目标、课程体系,所倡导的学习方式,以及所主张的选拔人才的模式,都值得参考和借鉴。

总结:1、高中教育的培养目标大多数都是从成人的角度提出来的,我们应从学生的立场去描述他们的素养。最需要关注的学生学习的兴趣,“兴趣”“能力”“个性”在学生发展中的作用是紧密相连的。
2、目前高中教育存在的问题是,把培养学生的研究能力功利化。教育功利化的源头是社会的价值取向问题。今天教育的问题、社会的问题讲到底就是我们没有形成一种多元化的价值取向。
3、在课程体系上应减少学科领域,并让不同的学科领域之间“跨”起来。一种划分学科领域的方法是分为四大类:①stem领域(科学science、技术technology、工程engineering、数学mathematics);②体育和健康;③人文、社会和艺术;④语文和文学。
4、上海纽约大学的课程体系为核心课程+专业课程,专业课程又分必修课程和选修课程。不应把学校教育单纯理解为课堂教学,要意识到学习是多元化的,课堂只是学习的一种方式。
5、上海纽约大学适合敢于冒险、敢于突破的学生报考。选拔标准为三个结合:一个是高考成绩,第二是中学的学业成绩,第三个是个人的综合素养。
What kind of high school education we need:
Interview with YU Lizhong, the principal of NYU Shanghai

Abstract: This paper probes into the high school educational objectives and curriculum reform using the method of interview. This paper holds that, we need to stand in the position of the students to describe their proper accomplishment, including expanding the learning interest of the students, exercising students’ insight, cultivating students’ specialty, developing students’ intercultural communication quality, etc. Correspondingly, we urgently need to integrate curriculum system to shatter the boundaries between subjects. In this sense, the curriculum system and learning approach advocated and exercised by Shanghai New York University is worth our reference.

Summary: 1. Most of the training objectives of high school education are proposed from the aspect of adults, and we should stand in the position of students to describe their accomplishments. The thing we should pay attention to in the first place is students’ learning interest, which is the start of ability and personality in students’ development.
2. The existing problems in high school education at present is that we make the culturing of research abilities utilitarian. The source of education utilitarian is that value in our society is too unitary. Today’s problems of education and society are ultimately caused by the fact that we haven’t built multiple values toward life and society.
3. We should reduce the number of fields in the curriculum system, and combine different subjects. One way is to divide the curriculum into four categories: ①stem( science, technology, engineering and mathematics); ②sports and health; ③humanities, society and arts; ④language and literature.
4. NYU Shanghai’s curriculum system includes core courses and professional courses, and the latter is divided into required courses and elective courses. We shouldn’t regard school education simply as class teaching because learning methods are various and in-class studying is just one way.
5. NYU Shanghai is suitable for those who are eager to take adventures and make breakthroughs. There are three ways to select the qualified ones to enter school: first is the college entrance examination score; second is the academic achievements during high school; third is personal comprehensive literacy.
