 Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement through Departmental Leadership

AbstractThe article discusses the importance of continuous unit improvement when chairing an academic department. It presents tips for both new and seasoned departmental chairs on determining near-term and long-term targets for improvement. The creative use of technology to manage costs where budgets are smaller and faculty are working at full load. The morale boost provided to faculty, students and staff by monitoring a department's work to improve its operation is also cited.
