Disrupting the Pipeline: The Role of School Leadership in Mitigating Exclusion and Criminalization of Students

Wilson Michael G.

AbstractExclusionary philosophies and practices are commonly deployed in spaces and ways that disproportionately impact minority students and students with disabilities. * The result of the wide use of these exclusionary practices in schools is a school to prison pipeline that increases the likelihood of involvement in the juvenile system for kids who are excluded. * School leaders can disrupt the effects associated with exclusion and the school to prison pipeline by supporting practices focused on prevention and restorative justice.
