Disrupting the Pipeline: The Role of School Leadership in Mitigating Exclusion and Criminalization of Students
Wilson Michael G.
Abstract:Exclusionary philosophies and practices are commonly deployed in spaces and ways that disproportionately impact minority students and students with disabilities. * The result of the wide use of these exclusionary practices in schools is a school to prison pipeline that increases the likelihood of involvement in the juvenile system for kids who are excluded. * School leaders can disrupt the effects associated with exclusion and the school to prison pipeline by supporting practices focused on prevention and restorative justice.
