摘要：研究型大学是中国与美国高等教育国际化的重要力量。研究表明, 中美研究型大学在国际化战略、教职员与学生的国际交流、课程与研究、相关设施条件和成果交流五个方面存在数量差距与观念差异。按照两国研究型大学国际化的速度, 未来中国研究型大学在一些数量指标上追平美国研究型大学相对容易。但中国研究型大学在国际视野与观念上的一些隐蔽的盲点, 可能使其国际化成为短期的治标行为而未能促成校园制度环境的整体改善, 甚至可能造成中国在世界问题的某些领域因缺乏专业知识和人才而蒙受损失。

总结：研究型大学是高等教育拥抱全球化力量的先锋。有学者认为, 21 世纪的研究型大学正形成一种全球模式许多国家的研究型大学正通过加强国际化来提升他们在世界大学中的位置。然而, 不同国家的研究型大学国际化是否意味着同一件事? 这些研究型大学采取了哪些相似或不同的战略来推进国际化? 他们在哪些方面取得了有效进展或存在问题? 本文通过比较中国与美国的研究型大学国际化来回答上述问题, 缘于以下理由: ( 1) 中国与美国的研究型大学是两国高等教育的重要力量。中国研究型大学占不到全国高校的3%, 却培养了全国50%以上的博士研究生。美国研究型大学占全国高校总数的7%, 招收了全国30%的博士研究生。( 2) 选取美国研究型大学作为比较对象, 也是以中国研究型大学的潜在目标为依据。中国研究型大学以建设世界一流大学或高水平大学为目标, 而当前美国拥有最多的世界一流大学。( 3) 数据资料的掌握使两者之间的比较研究具有可行性。美国研究型大学国际化的数据和资料相对公开, 通过互联网能够获取相当多可靠的数据。中国研究型大学的国际化数据主要源于课题调查和互联网提供的信息。

A Comparative Study of the Internationalization of Research Universities in China and America

Abstract: Research universities are the important players for internationalization of higher education in China and America. The comparative study presents the differences in strategic plan, faculty and student mobility, curriculum and research, facilities and outputs between research universities in China and America. According to its growth rate of internationalization, it is relatively undemanding that Chinese research universities to measure up some quantity indicators to American research universities in the future. However, the draw backs of international perspectives and ideas of Chinese research universities are more concealed, which possibly make the internationalization be a short term strategy and fail to improve the integrated campus environment, even damage the country for the lack of expertise and research in some areas of world's problem in future.
