Abstract: An Indispensable Elementary Library Program Inquiry learning is becoming an increasingly interesting approach for learning with international and national educators around the world. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) Primary Years Program (PYP) is an inquiry framework that describes the characteristics of an international student in the learner profile. Learners construct meaning through the five essential elements of the program: concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and action.
Collaborative planning by all teachers throughout a school supports and helps the student make real-life connections. Vienna International School (VIS) is an international school that uses the PYP framework to develop its program and units of inquiry, and the primary library resource center is central to the support. Student involvement in developing library citizenship rules is very much part of how the library uses PYP principles to promote aspects of the learner profile and a transdisciplinary skills approach.
