 THE TEACHER AS CULTURALWORKER: OVERLAPPING INSIGHTS EROM SOCIOLOGY AND GENERAL SEMANTICS

AbstractChildren, future of a nation, go through various processes of socialization to learn moral values and social conventions and develop according to their unique needs and potential. Knowledge, the foundation of social life and its transmission between or among generations, through teachers has been a significant aspect of socialization too. This is extraordinary in view of the fundamental socio-cultural importance of the process. The socialization process involves parenting, which may be termed as primary socialization, and schooling. Parents are the solely responsible (and will remain so) individuals in training the child the best possible ways in values and ethics till the child comes to the age of attending school. Next to the Parents who play a significant role in the life and in the process of the child's socialization process is the teacher. In today's world, teachers spend more time with the children than the parents. During this vital period of socialization of the fresh minds certain aspects should be considered. These aspects could be protection, mutual reciprocity, control, guided learning, and group participation, which are assumed to be operative in all cultures. When they come of age to attend the formal education system, they are under the guidance and protection of the teachers and the school authority.
