The Quest for a Queer Inclusive Cultural Ethics: Setting Directions for Teachers’ persevere and Continuing Professional Development André P. Grace, Kristopher Wells
Abstract:Historically, sexual minority (lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersexual, transidentified, two-spirited,1 and queer) teachers have been marginalized in Canadian education, culture, and society. While this chapter addresses the specifics of this marginalization in Canada and efforts to address it in law, legislation, and educational policy and practice, the discussion is relevant across many democratic contexts where sexual minority rights have been on national agendas in education and culture. A goal of this chapter is to contribute to our global understanding of sexual minority issues by allowing readers to compare what is unfolding in Canada to their own national contexts.
