Principal preparation and training: a look at China and its issues

Abstract: The article discusses the training of school principals in China. The authors discuss principal training programs used in Great Britain, Singapore and the U.S. and comment on standards regarding skills and role expectations for school leaders. The curriculum used for principal education at Beijing Normal University, which includes educational philosophy and internships, and educational curriculum changes that center on student self-efficacy and decentralised management are discussed. The authors comment on how social diversity, a lack of resources and principal education and assessment methods affect principal development.
